1. is there God (taken from granted)
>the question is not whether there is a God because even the theory of evolution posits an intelligence behind it, be it a particle, or an alien (that is not idolatry because God is not the only intelligent being)
>idolatry = to attribute INDEPENDENT WILL (a personality = ability to choose, think, feel) to these substances or particles
>God is called a "he" because he is a person [with intelligence / understanding, memory, & will]
2. what is God's purpose / plan for creating us (the important question)
>the more important question is: am I FAMILIAR with God? = do I know his PLAN for me / the world?
>from the jewish viewpoint, God created us because he NEEDED us
>the 10 commandments were not conditions to win his favor, but his grand PLAN for needing / creating us
>we have a right to ask him to feed us because he created us with needs but the satisfaction of our needs is not the sole end / purpose of life
>conclusion: if I make something of myself, then I would have contribution to his grand plan for all of us
